Marginal gains

When Dave Brailsford became performance director of British Cycling he looked at making small, almost insignificant improvements, if a 1 percent margin for improvement was applied to everything, the result would be significant.

The cumulative gains resulted in 20 Olympic gold medals and 4 Tour De France winners.

Brailsford had the mindset to question everything, even the tiny things, like riders taking their own pillows to hotels, or investigating the best way to wash hands and avoid infection. Because together all those things make a big difference.
